K-8 General SOS Meetings

The General SOS (Southborough Organization for Schools) meetings will be held the second Friday of each month at 9:30 A.M. Representatives from all four Southborough elementary schools will review their services and events.

The meetings will take place at the Finn School in the Parent Room, #116. (Take first left past the office and enter first room on the right after the rest rooms.) All parents are invited to attend. Visit the SOS website for details.

Fundraisers

Scholastic Book Fair

Parents may purchase from a variety of children’s books set up at Finn for about two weeks during the fall. Teacher Wish Lists are displayed for those who would like to purchase a special book for the classroom library. A portion of the sales is given back to the school.

Bring your family & enjoy the music of Rick Goldin. Sing, dance & jump along with Rick and his singing animal puppets!!

Gift Wrap

SOS will kick off our largest school fundraising program for our PreK to 5 th grade students on 9/18. This one fundraiser raised approximately $18,000 for Finn, Woodward and Neary last year and allowed SOS to support field trips, cultural arts and enrichment programs for our children.

Packets will be sent home to the oldest child in the PreK-5 schools on 9/18. You may also order on-line at www.Innisbrook.com. The SOS /school code is 117930, you will need to register your student for on-line orders.

Finn Tag Sale

Reserve a parking lot space and Get Rid of That Old Stuff!! Details to come in your Thursday packet.

Original Works of Art

Your child’s artwork is turned into beautiful and practical gifts including prints, mugs, magnets, garden flags and more! This program usually runs in the spring. A portion of the sales is given back to the school.

School Picture Retakes

Order individual student and/or class pictures as keepsakes. A portion of sales is returned to the school.

Finn Spring Fling

A spring carnival held in the Finn Gym. Enjoy games, inflatable slides, crafts, food and fun. Don’t miss it. Another great fun-raiser.

Box Tops

Send in boxtops from specially marked General Mills products. Clip them and send them in to school. Our volunteers will redeem them for 10 cents each. It all adds up. Encourage your relatives to save their boxtops too.

Purchase a T-shirt to show your school spirit. Be sure to wear it on Spirit Day (last Friday of each month). A portion of sales profits the school.

Art Show

Students original artwork matted and displayed at the Southborough Art Center. Parents and friends are invited to attend the special show.

Bulletin Board

Bulletin Boards in school lobbies are kept current to improve school/home communications.

Community Awareness

Each month the committee announces a list of donations accepted on behalf of the local food panty. During the holidays special giving programs encourage families to help those less fortunate.

  • Holiday Giving Drive: "Neighbors Helping Neighbors"
    Drop off store gift cards in the Holiday Drive Box in the office. All proceeds will benefit the clients of Southborough Youth & Family Services.

Community Reading Day

Guest Readers from the community are invited to participate in a special day celebrating literacy. Each class welcomes its own surprise guest.

Cultural Arts

Presentations are brought in house to expose students to Art, Music and Literature.

 

Enrichment Programs

Each grade is treated to a special program that correlates to its curriculum

 

Field Trips

Each grade has the opportunity to experience learning outside the classroom.

  • The Kindergarteners will have a field trip to the Community House, the Fire Station and then Library.

 

Field Day

SOS helps to coordinate volunteers and water stations for this event. The gym teachers design relays and other games for a fun day of outside activity for each grade

 

Gardening

Upkeep of gardens in designated areas at school.

 

Health Week

Promotes healthy lifestyles and healthy food choices.

 

Hospitality

Proving refreshments for various school functions.

 

Kindergarten Orientation

A spring event for incoming kindergarteners including a puppet show and “first bus ride” to help with transitions.

 

Literacy Program

Reading is Finn-tastic is a program to encourage reading among all students. Each time your child reads a book or magazine, write the title on the Golden Ticket. Once the Golden Ticket is complete your child can bring it into school.

 

Lunch Room Monitors

SOS assists in scheduling volunteers to help students during lunch.

 

Math Day

Introduces innovative approaches to solving math problems.

 

Room Parents

SOS recruits and coordinates room parents for each classroom. Room parents work closely with the teacher to schedule classroom volunteers and special events.

 

Special Person Sundaes

A fun time for families to enjoy an ice cream social. Each student asks a special person to be their guest free of charge. All other family members and friends may attend and contribute toward the ice cream.

 

Summer Quest

A program designed to keep kids reading all summer long. Students keep track of books read and turn in logs to win prizes.

Teacher Appreciation

Each school plans a special way to say thanks to all of its teachers and specialists.

Thursday Packets

Each Thursday, packets of flyers are collated to communicate upcoming school and town events and memos from administration.

School Coffees

Coffees take place at 9:30am in the Finn Cafeteria . The school coffees allow parents a chance to meet directly with the school principal and to learn more about what is happening at the school.
