Fundraisers

Gift Wrap

SOS will kick off our largest school fundraising program for our PreK to 5 th grade students on 9/18. This one fundraiser raised approximately $18,000 for Finn, Woodward and Neary last year and allowed SOS to support field trips, cultural arts and enrichment programs for our children.

Packets will be sent home to the oldest child in the PreK-5 schools on 9/18. You may also order on-line at www.Innisbrook.com. The SOS /school code is 117930, you will need to register your student for on-line orders.

Mathathon

This is an event which promotes mathematical thinking. Students complete a Math Packet which is grade specific. Friends and family are asked to pledge an amount of money per math sheet completed or a flat-sum. The program is followed by the Annual Neary Math Day.

Book Week

A week set aside to recognize 2 authors, 1 illustrator and 1 storyteller selected by the school each year. These men and women share their stories and their own personalities in special session with the Neary students. A book sale is held in the Neary library throughout the week to allow families to purchase books signed by the special guests. A variety of other books are on sale as well. A portion of sales helps to defray the cost of maintaining this literacy program.

Box Tops

 

Send in boxtops from specially marked General Mills products. Clip them and send them in to school. Our volunteers will redeem them for 10 cents each. It all adds up. Encourage your relatives to save their boxtops too.

Inkjet & Laser Cartridges, and Cell Phones

Send in your old used inkjet & laser cartridges and cell phones and the school will trade them in for cash. They may be dropped in the box in the Neary lobby. Check with your workplace – maybe it could adopt your child’s school to help in this way!

Notepads

A must for all families. Purchase a notepad or two to write up notes to school. Great for pick-up slips and communicating other after school plans.

Gift card program where a portion of the sales is given back to the schools.

T-Shirts

Purchase a T-shirt to show your school spirit. Be sure to wear it on Spirit Day (first Friday of each month). A portion of sales profits the school.

Want Ads /Classifieds

Place your advertisement to sell furniture, sports equipment or even your car. Use it to rent out your vacation home. Distributed to Southborough School families.

Arts Night

A night to focus on the arts at Neary. Original artwork for each student is matted and displayed within Neary. Band, Orchestra and Chorus all perform. Parents and friends are invited to attend the special evening

Bulletin Board

Bulletin Boards in school lobbies are kept current to improve school/home communications.

CARE

Program designed to emphasize CARE (Compassion, Acceptance and Respect for Everyone) in our school throughout the year.

Colonial Day

Highlight of the colonial period curriculum for 5th graders. A day for students to participate in craft workshops, enjoy special foods and dress up in colonial outfits. Parents are invited to a parade and open house.

Communication

Provides communication to the parents through flyers in the Thursday Packet, Monthly SOS Newsletters, email blasts, etc.

Community Awareness

Each month the committee announces a list of donations accepted on behalf of the local food panty. During the holidays special giving programs encourage families to help those less fortunate.

Community Read Day

Guest Readers from the community are invited to participate in a special day celebrating literacy. Each class welcomes its own surprise guest.

Cultural Arts

presentations are brought in house to expose students to Art, Music and Literature.

DARE

Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. Taught to fifth grade students by the Southborough police department. SOS makes a contribution toward the program.

Driveway Signs

Provides current information regarding upcoming events on the sign at the driveway entrance to the school.

Each grade is treated to a special program that correlates to its curriculum.

Fifth Grade Farewell

A party/picnic held after school one afternoon to celebrate the achievements and memories of the fifth grade class. A highlight event before moving on to middle school. Refreshments, DJ, speakers and fun!

June 9

Fifth Grade Fundraiser / Ice Cream Social

Come join us on Wednesday, March 12th from 6:00 – 8:00PM in the Neary School Cafeteria for a sweet treat followed by a trip to the Barnes & Noble Book Fair in the school library. Proceeds from the Ice Cream Social will be used for the fifth grade class gift.

We are in need of volunteers to help scoop ice cream, if you would like to help, please contact Suzy Green. Thanks for your support!

Field Trips

Each grade has the opportunity to experience learning outside the classroom. SOS coordinates the trips and funds a portion of each field trip.

Field Day

SOS helps to coordinate volunteers and water stations for this event. The gym teachers design relays and other games for a fun day of outside activity for each grade

Providing refreshments for various school functions.

Individual(s) represent the Neary School and its community at General SOS monthly meetings and attend School Committee meetings.

Nurse Assistant

Individuals assist the nurse when needed for areas such as student screenings for hearing, vision, etc.

Publicize Neary SOS events and services to the local press.

Room Parent Coordinator

SOS recruits and coordinates room parents for each classroom. Room parents work closely with the teacher to schedule classroom volunteers and special events.

Summer Reading Program

Raffle Card

A program designed to keep kids reading all summer long. Students keep track of books read and turn in logs to win prizes.

The teachers and SOS have chosen "Summer Quest" as our Summer Learning Program. Summer Quest workbooks are filled with fun, educational exercises to help your child make the transition to a new school year.

A wonderful Neary community event. All Neary families are encouraged to enjoy ice cream while visiting with each other. A great way to kickoff the school year.

Includes individual and class photos of the 5th grade students, and class photos of the 4th grade students. Also includes memorable events such as Colonial Day, DARE Graduation, Invention Convention, etc.

School Coffees

Coffees take place at 9:30am in the Neary cafeteria. The school coffees allow parents a chance to meet directly with the school principal and to learn more about what is happening at the school.
